Methuen Man and Woman Injured in 495 Rollover

A Methuen man and a woman were seriously injured in a single vehicle rollover on I- 495 last Friday. The 30-year-old man was the driver of a 1996 Honda Civic that landed on its roof and sustained significant damage in the crash. The 29-year-old woman was his lone passenger.

Both were airlifted by medical helicopters to Boston hospitals with serious injuries; the woman in a critical condition, after being ejected from the vehicle in the accident. She suffered massive head injuries and was lapsing in and out of consciousness, police said. There was no information whether she was wearing a seat belt.

State police suspect that road rage is to blame for the accident which occurred North of Exit 52 in Merrimac. According to police, a gray Porsche 911 operated by a white male with white hair may have been involved in the road-rage incident. There were no other details regarding the car or the driver.

While police are still investigating the details of this rollover, a recent data from the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding rollover accidents shows that in 2009, 441 motor vehicles were involved in fatal accidents in Massachusetts, 27 of which involved cars.
