Peabody Accident Leaves 2 Teens Injured

Chad Mancini, 19, of Lynn and a 15-year-old teenage girl from Peabody, who has not been identified, suffered serious injuries in a Tuesday morning car crash that occurred on the ramp that leads from Route 1 South to I-95 North in Peabody. The Daily Item of Lynn reports that Mancini somehow lost control of the Chevy Malibu he was driving while on the ramp around 7:30am, crashing into a guardrail along the side of the ramp. The impact caused the Malibu to spin around and crash into the guardrail for a second time before it rolled over. The car eventually came to a rest on the side of the ramp.

Mancini and the unidentified girl were taken to a Boston area hospital with serious injuries. Both of their conditions are currently unknown. Police involved with the crash are continuing their investigation into the cause of accident but believe that speed contributed to the crash. The two teens were allegedly not wearing seatbelts and, according to police, the absence of the belts also contributed to the injuries they experienced. The ramp was closed down following the accident for several hours to allow for police to investigate and clear the scene. One of the lanes was opened to traffic around 11:00am.

Passenger vehicles were found to have a 10% or less chance of rolling over in a motor vehicle accident.
